Senior Architect Role Overview
The Senior Architect is a highly creative, talented, and experienced core team member of the Architecture department within the Museum of Illusions. As a Senior Architect, you will be creating immersive experiences that combine education and entertainment for Museum interior spaces worldwide. As a high-level performer, your role will focus on leading museum projects with minimal oversight. The Senior Architect plays a key role in executing design direction and connecting to the broader design strategy. Your role will involve collaborating across departments and engaging local architects and other design-construction professionals to develop innovative solutions that meet the requirements.
Project Tasks/Responsibilities (80%):
- Proficient understanding of Museum of Illusions design strategy and scope of work according to the project location
- Conceptualizing spaces to balance function and aesthetics with an emphasis on interior and experiential design
- Creating design sketches, presentations, mood boards, material-finish palettes, 3D renderings, video walkthroughs, and design documentation for museums across different locations
- Developing design drawings for fabrication intent and/or architectural coordination with clear design intent and specifications
- Translating documentation from different locations -languages and cultures- to suit the Museum design purposes and processes
- Evaluating site locations according to existing documentation and visiting site locations to analyze suitability according to the Museum design standards
- Periodically evaluating existing museum locations and identifying opportunities for future design upgrades
- Preparing and adjusting project documentation and cost estimates within the allocated budget and timelines while tackling different construction markets
- Actively engaged as the Lead Designer of the build-out project team
- Supervising the team of architects and designers during the life of the project to meet deadlines and targets
- Closely collaborating across company departments to meet design-driven solutions
- Coordinating design intent and projects with external consultants including local architects, engineers, contractors, fabricators, and graphic designers to create a unified brand experience
- Leading on-site observations, reviewing submittals, producing documentation as required and managing design intent during Construction Administration
- Skillfully managing multiple project locations during different phases and engaging with other team members
- Proficient understanding of project phases, exhibits, installation schedules and construction timelines
Team Responsibilities (20%):
- Generating work plans for project teams
- Actively contributing and implementing processes across the department
- Maintains adherence to the department’s application of processes, tools, file/folder maintenance and templates
- Creating department-level standards, guidelines, and protocols for the architecture and design department that include but are not limited to design guidelines, templates, specification books, file protocols, and checklists
- Researching and compiling material library assets
- Proficient understanding of design planning issues
- Fluency in visualization and documentation standards and practices
- Fluency in materials, fabrication processes, and techniques
- Research the applicability of Museum standards across construction markets
- Communicating across the Museum of Illusions network, managing multiple projects and reporting directly to the manager
Background:
- Bachelor's and/or Master’s degree in Architecture
- 6+ years of working experience in relevant positions in the architecture and interior design offices
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines/targets
- Comfortable working in an office and remotely on-site when needed
- Excellent English comprehension and communication – C1 level or above is preferred
- Excellent command of MS Office
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, 3D modeling programs (Sketchup), and Adobe CC package is mandatory.
- Extensive BIM knowledge is preferred and highly valuable
- Comfortable across 3D and rendering software
